The Surat Migrant Cell was launched on 4th of January 2021 by the Honourable Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. The first of its kind initiative has been undertaken by the Surat Municipal Corporation under the Surat Smart City Development Limited and the National Urban Livelihood Scheme. The Cell aims to create a database of migrant workers to enable effective outreach of entitlements like government schemes and services. The database will facilitate a detailed skill mapping and demarcate highly vulnerable areas for targeted intervention.
The Surat Migrant Cell will be registered as a Non-Profit Organization established as a Section 8 Company.
